Recognizing the severity of the situation and the widespread impact of COVID-19, with people confined to their homes, there was a pressing need to share concerns and provide relief during this unprecedented crisis.
In response to this challenge, the Xavier’s College Alumni, in collaboration with the Xavier’s School Alumni Association and St. Xavier’s College Jaipur, joined forces to combat the unknown enemy of the time.Â
COVID CARE CENTRE at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, Hathroi Fort Campus, was inaugurated by Sh. Raghu Sharma, the Honorable Minister of Medical and Health, Government of Rajasthan on May 24, 2021, with 20 beds and oxygen concentrators, and a dedicated team of 15 volunteers. The centre had the provision to expand the beds from 20 to 100, where asymptomatic patients would be treated free of cost. The patients would be provided with free medical care, medical supplies, and food. An MoU with Rajasthan Hospital was also signed for more serious cases, and to be diverted there for critical treatment. 2000 PPE kits were also distributed to government hospitals, and a regular supply of drinking water for the doctors was provided for a month.
A Medical Mobile Van, comprised of a doctor, two nurses, and dedicated volunteers, was also started. The Medical Mobile Van was equipped to conduct free daily antigen tests in the rural areas surrounding the college. Additionally, the van facilitated the distribution of essential supplies, including dry rations, masks, and sanitizers, contributing significantly to the overall well-being of the rural population. Beyond medical assistance, the van played a pivotal role in disseminating crucial information about COVID-19 and black fungus prevention. This educational initiative was realized through the distribution of handouts, posters, and the dissemination of recorded audio messages via the PA system. Under the COVID CARE CENTRE, free tele-counseling services, yoga and meditation classes, and a free vaccination drive were also initiated by alumni.
